Book of Eli Movie in 2010

The Hughes brothers are directing the Book of Eli, a post-apocalyptic Western movie based on a script penned by Gary Whitta. The film is starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson and Jennifer Beals. It is tentatively scheduled for a release in January 2010.

Here below a first official teaser poster of the Book of Eli:

THE BOOK OF ELI MOVIEThe pen is maybe mightier than the sword, but Eli does have a samurai sword in his back!

Plot / Synopsis:
"In the post-apocalyptic world of the book of Eli, civilization has collapsed and clean water has become the prime currency.
Washington plays a survivor who must fend off gangs and a brutal tyrant in this desolate wasteland.
Oldman will play the film's villain, a despot of a small and pathetic town, who's determined to get a hold of Eli's book, a book that may save Mankind."

I'm a real science-fiction addict so I can but be glad to know about the Book of Eli. But Unfortunately even if the cast can boast some great talents like Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman the success isn't a guaranty for this film. Not only the current recession may turn the public away from one more movie describing a bleak future, but also John Hillcoat's The Road, which should be released in the coming months, may get a hold that the Book of Eli would not anymore be able to equal.

But still some details like Eli's samurai sword, could mean a movie differentiating itself enough -even if not bringing a brand new concept- to arouse the public's interest again!
