Book of Eli Movie Trailer

We may now watch the first official trailer of The Book of Eli, upcoming post-apocalyptic movie directed by the Hugues Brothers and starring Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman:

The Book of Eli movie feels somewhat like the vid game Fallout! I'm really impressed by the atmosphere of this Book of Eli trailer. Besides we may ready ourselves for lot of action, with an hyperboosted Denzel Washington hellbent on fulfilling his mission, and who's not afraid to use his samurai sword!

Yep, I'm definitely impatient to watch the movie The Book of Eli!

Book of Eli Poster

The Book of Eli is going to be represented at the Comic Con and special posters have been created by artist Chris Weston (he also previously worked on the storyboard of the Book of Eli) for the event:

There is a Mad Max feel to those posters of the Book of Eli. But I'm sure that Denzel Washington will bring a new dimension to the post-apocalyptic movie genre.

Book of Eli Behind The Scenes

Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman - Book of Eli Movie SetThe well-connected people at Entertainment Tonight have been allowed to sneak onto the set of the Book of Eli, upcoming post-apocalyptic movie starring Denzel Washington in the lead role. ET even brings us a behind the scenes clip of the Book of Eli with a glimpse of a scene that was being filmed. The scene is said to be from the end of the film:

The set reminds a bit of the world of Fallout, the first nuclear sci-fi RPG game. We don't have enough information to worry, but I hope that the book of Eli won't just be a post-apocalyptic western... I mean let's hope the plot will get into details and not just ride on violence just for violence's sake.

Book of Eli Movie in 2010

The Hughes brothers are directing the Book of Eli, a post-apocalyptic Western movie based on a script penned by Gary Whitta. The film is starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson and Jennifer Beals. It is tentatively scheduled for a release in January 2010.

Here below a first official teaser poster of the Book of Eli:

THE BOOK OF ELI MOVIEThe pen is maybe mightier than the sword, but Eli does have a samurai sword in his back!

Plot / Synopsis:
"In the post-apocalyptic world of the book of Eli, civilization has collapsed and clean water has become the prime currency.
Washington plays a survivor who must fend off gangs and a brutal tyrant in this desolate wasteland.
Oldman will play the film's villain, a despot of a small and pathetic town, who's determined to get a hold of Eli's book, a book that may save Mankind."

I'm a real science-fiction addict so I can but be glad to know about the Book of Eli. But Unfortunately even if the cast can boast some great talents like Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman the success isn't a guaranty for this film. Not only the current recession may turn the public away from one more movie describing a bleak future, but also John Hillcoat's The Road, which should be released in the coming months, may get a hold that the Book of Eli would not anymore be able to equal.

But still some details like Eli's samurai sword, could mean a movie differentiating itself enough -even if not bringing a brand new concept- to arouse the public's interest again!

Book of Eli Cast

Here below the cast of the Book Eli and some details about the characters in the film:

- Denzel Wahsington as Eli: a lone hero in a not-too-distant apocalyptic future who must fight across America to bring society the knowledge that could be the key to its redemption.

He's got a book and a samurai sword!

- Mila Kunis as Solara: she is caught in a terrible trap: local strongman Carnegie can force her to do anything he wants by threatening her mother. Ordered to seduce Eli and keep him off guard, Solara fails in her mission, and soon realizes that Eli is like no man she has ever met: he balks at being reduced to animalistic behavior, and he uses violence to serve a cause greater than his own. Moved by Eli's heart and spirit, Solara opts to follow him on his journey, and becomes his friend and pupil...

- Gary Oldman as Carnegie: a ruthless yet charismatic dictator in charge of a town near Sacramento; he's an extortionist, slave driver, saloon keeper, and antiquarian. Age has hardened him. Brutal intelligence is etched on his face. His cruel, ambitious eyes show him to be a man with power, but never enough to satisfy. He built his rotten town out of poisonous rubble and rules it with an iron fist -- but he wants more. A smooth talker, decisive and ruthless, Carnegie is on a collision course with Eli...

- Jennifer Beals as Claudia: she is Carnegie's mistress and Solara's (MILA KUNIS) mother, a blind woman who has been sightless since birth. Captured as a prize by Carnegie long ago, she tolerates her life as his sexual plaything, knowing that to refuse him anything will only mean torment for her child. Eventually, she settles the score...

- Ray Stevenson (?) as Redrige: a thin-faced, violent man, Redridge is Carnegie's muscle, the leader of his crew of gunmen and enforcers. Redridge is extremeley loyal, but he’s always watching for an opportunity to win Solara, for whom he lusts, as a prize from his boss..

- unknown as Martz: the leader of a quartet of biker marauders, Martz is a thief, a rapist and a killer, a predator who rides the roads, looking for hapless victims to rob and waste. An illiterate flunky of Carnegie's, he knows that Carnegie will pay top dollar for a certain Book, so he brings in every book he can find. Stupid enough to confront Eli, Martz watches in horror as his men are sliced to bits samurai-style -- and when he doubles down his folly by trying to hit Eli from behind, he's swiftly killed.

- unknown as Hoyt: Redridge’s bull-necked second-in-command, Hoyt foolishly tries to buck Carnegie’s orders once too often, and is shot to death for his insolence…

- unknown as George: a man who looks like the old man in Grant Wood's "American Gothic," George seems to be a bizarrely sweet old coot living on the outskirts of a ruined town with his wife, Martha. A little too normal to be truly sane, George is actually a survivalist with a cache of weapons -- while still maintaining the conventions of middle-class suburbia. Willing to have Eli and Solara in for tea and ladyfingers, George explodes into violent action when Carnegie's forces attack...

- unknown as Martha: George's wife, sweet and seemingly dainty, with her gray hair tied into a neat bun, she looks like the old woman in Grant Wood's "American Gothic." She lives with George in their well-kept house on the outskirts of a ruined town, and has no qualms about using their weapons cache to defend herself...

- unknown as Professor Lombard: An older man, professorial and academic, wise, intense, and tough-minded, he is the librarian of sorts, a keeper of lost history, who ends up helping Eli in his quest...

The characters in the Book of Eli are definitely interesting. And the main cast is well-experienced and got talent, so I'm quite confident that this post-apocalyptic movie will be a masterpiece eventually!
